Transcription: Captain Robert Gray House. Captain Gray was the first to carry the American flag around the globe (1789-90). His voyage into the Columbia River (1792), the first by an American, gave the United States one of its claims to the Oregon Territory, which was the subject of dispute with Great Britain until 1846.
